overview

Grit City Magazine is the unofficial official voice for Tacoma culture. If you want to know what Tacomans are thinking, feeling, observing, living…Grit City Mag is where you’ll find fresh and unfiltered takes. They have a loyal social media following, and they frequently publish stories on their website, but their heart and soul is their quarterly print edition. It is painstakingly curated, intentionally designed, and finished on an old stitching machine on the floor of Rotator studio.

strategy

The stories in Grit City Magazine cross the spectrum from serious editorials on race and politics to playful satire pieces and silly games. With such a wide range of artistic, photographic, and journalistic styles, each article becomes its own little design world. Our role in this ongoing project is to help Grit City Mag craft a visual narrative as compelling as the stories themselves.

The team at Rotator Creative is the perfect balance of qualified professionalism and approachability. To be able to fully express oneself in a business meeting (with all the humor and irreverence that it takes to make a print magazine about Tacoma) is a rare and valuable thing.

Working with Rotator Creative has been a joy since day one. When we first started working with them on our print magazine in the summer of 2020, we came to them with more problems to be solved than ideas to go on. They took it all in stride and everything we’ve done since has become better as a result.
